Weller Single Barrel Bourbon

Weller Single Barrel has a nose of cherry and mint, fading to vanilla.  Caramel and baking spices with hints of cocoa explode on the palate, with a finish of cinnamon, coffee, and a hint of pepper.

This Buffalo Trace release follows the 2016 rebrand of the range, which saw the “W.L.” prefix dropped from the packaging. In her book But Always Fine Bourbon, Sally Van Winkle Campbell claims that Sazerac did not have the exact Weller recipe until their partnership with her brother, Julian Van Winkle III was agreed in 2002.

Undoubtedly a nod of approval from the family for the modern day product. As of 2019, Weller products have been bottled with either screw caps or a gold foil capsule with cork stopper, depending on the market in which it was originally intended.

The Weller Single Barrel was introduced to the range in June 2020.

Harrison Blanton developed the legendary Buffalo Trace distillery in 1812. It was bought in 1870 by the renowned Edmund Haynes Taylor Jr., who named it OFC (Old Fashioned Copper) and made significant advances in its modernization. In fact, he spent so much money that he declared bankruptcy after just seven years. Then, George T. Stagg intervened to save it and purchased it in 1878 it. He managed the distillery until he retired in the 1890s, and in 1904 it was given a new name in his honor. After surviving Prohibition, it was acquired by the Schenley firm in 1933. For the next 50 years, it was managed as a part of their wide portfolio before being sold to Japan’s Age International.

The new Japanese owners only focused on its brands and soon sold the distillery to the Sazerac Company, who renamed it Buffalo Trace in 1999. The Buffalo Trace Distillery claims to be the nation’s oldest distillery still in operation. Therefore, it should come as no surprise that a distillery with such a long history and extensive experience has one of the greatest families and domestic brands in any business, as well as a broad variety of spirits.
